One of the big bits of Uncharted 3 news to emerge from Sony's E3 Conference last Monday was confirmation that Elena and Chloe - respectively Drake's missus and former bit on the side - are both back for Nate's third round of happy-thwacking and treasure hunting.

But don't get too attached to the brainy blonde or wickedly-curved Aussie, because Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells says he'd have no hesitation in killing off one of the pair - or any other major character - if the storyline called for it.

"We're not dogmatic about anything," he told us when we asked if bumping off one of the lead characters was something Naughty Dog would consider. "If that is what it takes [to advance the storyline] then that's what it takes. And not just for dramatic shock value - it would definitely have to tie into the narrative that [we're] trying to tell and expose an aspect of Drake's character that we would want to delve into."

Wells does confirm is that whether or not they survive to the end of Uncharted 3, the pert pair will be playing a less prominent a role this time.  "We are trying to keep things fresh and draw certain aspects of Nate's personality out as well as the characters he's surrounded with," he explains. "Chloe and Elena are back but they aren't the emphasis of the story the way they were in Uncharted 2. This time round the emphasis is on Victor Sullivan and his mentor/protégé relationship with Drake." [SOURCE]

I wish I could come up with a better descriptive term than "smoother," but that seems to be the most accurate. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception looks incredible from a visual standpoint, as one might expect. But as many have noticed, there has been a technical alteration to the character design and presentation. For example, here's a picture courtesy of GamingBolt. It's Chloe as she looked in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and as she appeared in the E3 trailer for Uncharted 3. There's also a comparison shot of Elena and we've already seen plenty of Drake in past months. In our eyes, it seems plain: they've been "smoothed" over. The thing that's bugging me is this- I really can't decide if it's "better."

I mean, strictly from a technical standpoint, I think it's plain. They've taken another step by cutting back on that glossy, almost plastic-y sheen we've seen in the past. At the same time, it almost seems as if a touch of the rich color and definition from Uncharted 2 went away with that glossiness. It's certainly more realistic and more accomplished; I'm just not sure I like it more. Sorta torn right now. You also get slightly different facial animations with this sleeker style, and in this respect, I haven't seen enough to make any decisions one way or the other. I'm just wondering what the fans have to say about this.

Hello, fellow "Uncharted" fans!

So I'm a big nerd, and I like to play dress-up. One of the costumes I've put together recently is the fantastic Ms. Chloe Frazer, and I figured I'd share some snapshots that I took in my Chloe outfit a few nights ago.

More where that came from behind the cut. Dial-up, beware! )

I still have some accessories to add (like the compass on her belt), but this is the bulk of the costume. I can't wait to take it out on some adventures! :D

While this may not come as a surprise for some of you – as part of Naughty Dog’s continuing support of our multiplayer community, we’re glad to say we’ve got some new UNCHARTED 2 DLC on the way real soon! Like, next week soon.

On Tuesday, August 17, the UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves Sidekick Skins pack will be available for purchase with the PlayStation Store. After the last two sets of multiplayer skins we released, we heard that you wanted more Sully, more Chloe and more Elena (among many, many other things) – and that’s exactly what we put into the pack. Not to neglect the villains team, we also threw in two enemy characters from UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune – Dillon and Mac – who complete the set we started with Blain and Dutch.

Although 2009 boasted many fantastic voiceover performances in the video game industry - Mark Hamill as The Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum and Jack Black as Eddie Riggs in Brutal Legend come quickly to mind - perhaps the most accomplished overall cast was found in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Why? Well, let the voice of Chloe Frazer explain a bit about how Naughty Dog handles their business; when it comes to preparing an interactive movie of sorts, you need some highly professional and well-trained individuals, right? Joystiq spoke to actress Claudia Black about her first time doing motion capture for a game, and she talked about the general experience:

"Yes, this was my first motion capture experience. I am a huge proponent of it because I think what impressed me about Naughty Dog's is that they respect and appreciate the magic that occurs over time between the performers. That you can have a great script, and you can have great voice actors in the booth, but you are never going to recreate that incredible alchemy that occurs with people in a room together.

Uncharted 2 comes out next week, and we spoke to the actress who plays Chloe Frazer

Actress Claudia Black has a loyal following from sci-fi hits like Farscape and Stargate: SG:1, as well as games such as God of War, Conan and Crysis. The Australian actress made her leap into the world of performance capture working with Sony and Naughty Dog on Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. She took some time away from the set at Hollywood's House of Moves to talk about why Uncharted appeals to female gamers, and how video games have changed the landscape in Tinseltown.

What's it like playing Chloe Frazer in Uncharted 2?

She's a lot of fun to play. She's incredibly relaxed and irreverent. Chloe is Indiana Jones with nice hair. She's way hotter than I am. I love it, but I keep asking the boys to make my boobs big, because I figure if they're going to create me from scratch, apparently you can improve on perfection. Just kidding. They say that the more they see us on screen, the more the animators make the characters look like us and I keep telling them not to because I really love what they have done with my character. And Drake is so hot. It's such a shame that he doesn't really exist, because I think I've got a bit of a crush on him.
