At the end of February, Sony and Naughty Dog flipped the freebie switch on Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception multiplayer. Since then, over 350,000 individuals worldwide have downloaded the free client.

The news comes as part of a DLC announcement over on the PlayStation Blog, where Naughty Dog reveals it will offer new DLC every month until June, starting first with "Oddball" avatar accoutrements celebrating Extraterrestrial Abductions Day. Some "Oddball" items include a duct tape mask, a bag for your avatar's head and a burlap sack, also for your head – because nothing celebrates alien abductions quite like a sombrero. [SOURCE]

It'll take more than a new portable to bring sales back up. The NPD Group has revealed the industry numbers for February, and sales were down across the board. Overall US retail sales for the month came in at $1.06 billion, which is down 20% year-over-year. Software fell even further, down 24% to $485.7 million, and even hardware - despite the availability of two new systems in the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita - were down 18% to $381.4 million. The only silver lining is that hardware was up in comparison to the previous month. As for the Vita, Uncharted: Golden Abyss did manage to crack the top 20 on the software charts, and $10 million worth of Vita accessories were sold, too.

Release a solid game, and people will buy it. Release a second solid game, and more people will buy it. If you release a third solid game without massive changes (as in “if it’s not broken don’t fix it”), and people will buy it NEW, because nobody’s trading it in. An awesome story, beautiful graphics, fun yet relatively simple gameplay all lead to amazing replay value. Quality catches on and gamers still have money to spend, say what you will about the economy. Just ask Naughty Dog, they’ve more than quadrupled their sales from their first edition.

The Uncharted series has been a staple in the PlayStation3 family since the original release of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune in 2007. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves released in 2009, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception released in November of 2011. Drake’s Fortune in its first 10 weeks only sold 281,066 units. Fast forward to 2011, and developer Naughty Dog has struck the very gold hero Nathan Drake is always looking for. The series only gets more popular with each release. According to VGChartz , UC 3: Drake’s Deception retailers have moved 1,269,368 units during its first 10 weeks on the shelf. Even Uncharted 2 sold less in its first 10 weeks, moving “only” 946, 062 units. Money talks. [SOURCE]

Nathan Drake and co. have helped Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series to sell in excess of 13 million copies, according to the title’s Marketing Manager, Sony’s Asad Quizilbash. The news comes form an interview with IndustryGamers (as reported by VG247), where Quizilbash spoke about the marketing strategy for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, which sold 3.8 million in its first week on sale, doubling its predecessor, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. “As we reported, day one we shipped over 3.8 Million copies of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Week one sales were double that of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, far exceeding our expectations,” He told IG.

When questioned further on the sales of the series as a whole, Quizilbash came straight out gave the magic number. “[We've] sold over 13 Million units globally.” Pretty impressive, considering Uncharted is a platform exclusive. Despite the success of the series, the marketing manager was reluctant to give any information away about another Uncharted title in the future. “We can’t talk about any future title releases. We will continue to make games that our consumers love experiencing.” he stated. Take from that what you will.

The Playstation 3 exclusive adventure game, Uncharted 3 – Drake’s Deception Collector’s Edition, has landed in the top 35 of Gamestop’s sales chart. This is a great indicator that this upcoming title is set to sell a lot of units and it might be an outright hit. If you are looking for an indication of strong demand, landing on the top 35 is a pretty good indication. This week, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Collector’s Edition is at number 34 among all the products at Gamestop.com. Uncharted 3 – Drake’s Deception is set to go on sale on November 11.

Both the standard and the collector’s edition of this game will be released on the same day. Aside from the game itself, the collector’s edition also include a traveling chest case, a steel book, a game case, a replica of Nathan Drake’s, the protagonist, ring with a necklace strap and his belt buckle, and finally, a statue of Nathan Drake himself. This game is set to be an exciting installment of the Uncharted series because you will see Drake going to so many exotic locales, like the Arabian Desert and also a chateau in France. If you are looking for great action and also a proven title for this genre, definitely check out Uncharted 3 – Drake’s Deception. [SOURCE]

Pre-order sales for Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception has been going strong since the multiplayer beta was released back in July. Adding to the hype is the recent news that the game is now number 10 on Best Buy's pre-order sales charts.

The news may not seem like much at first, but Best Buy is a giant player in the video game industry. Pre-order sales charts at websites and stores like Amazon and Wal-Mart have always been useful in forecasting the eventual success or failure of new video game titles.

Pre-order numbers are often a good indication of future overall sales, and Amazon is reporting some huge numbers for several established franchises. Recently, we heard that Battlefield 3 pre-orders were currently 10 times higher than that of Bad Company 2 at a similar point before release. Now, Amazon UK compares BF3 to its true predecessor (Battlefield 2 on the PC), and the new game is 2,032% higher in regards to pre-orders. Unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is still topping EA's offering.

But what might be even more impressive is that Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception pre-orders are currently up 488% over those for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Remember, as the industry continues to grow, it's a little unfair to compare BF3 to BF2, given the 6-year gap. However, with a nearly 500% leap in pre-orders for the new Uncharted...well damn, it seems Naughty Dog is going to get the financial success they deserve. Which isn't to say Among Thieves didn't sell well; we just think the best game of the generation should've sold more. [SOURCE]
