That continues my complaint with how they seemed extremely unwilling to dive further to explain certain things and left it up to guesswork and/or never once attempt to bring up the subject again.
Bonus points in that they briefly brought up the aspect of self-destructive quests early on (I recall it was in France) and, beyond Elena telling Nate she's done with adventures, it's never once brought up again -- to my knowledge, anyway.
