Good News: 'Uncharted 2' Leads Video Game Award Nominations

The action-adventure "Uncharted 2" is bucking for Game of the Year, as is "Batman: Arkham Asylum," which logged a total of seven nominations, according to Spike TV, which presents the awards.

Military shooter game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" and zombie thriller "Left 4 Dead 2" each has landed six nominations, including Game of the Year. "Assassin's Creed 2" rounds out the contenders for Game of the Year. Nominated for Studio of the Year are Infinity Ward, Naughty Dog, Rocksteady Studios and Valve.

Last week was a pretty big week for gamers. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had record opening sales. It made $310 million in one day. I'll repeat that. It made $310 million in one day. Activision, the maker of Call of Duty franchise, attributes the success to the CoD brands uniquely engaging experience-a combination of compelling story line and rich cinematic feel.

That was the second time last week that I heard "cinematic" being used to reference a video game. The other being PS3s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. I've been hearing a lot about this game over the past few months. It's won 15 gaming awards. IGN.com rated Uncharted 2 at 9.5 (it's also an editors choice). And I also read one article where the writer bought a new TV just so he could enjoy the full visual splendor that Uncharted 2 unleashes.

Better graphics and performance



Uncharted 2: Among Thieves from Naughty Dog and Sony has managed to top the NPD Group chart for the month of October, beating out other titles that were also released for the Xbox 360 or for the Nintendo Wii.

The game has been praised, with the Softpedia review not being an exception, for the quality of its graphics, which seem to set a new standard on the PlayStation 3 and challenge the performance shown by Gears of War 2 on the Xbox 360.
