After four years of critical and commercial success, the Uncharted trilogy is set to finally conclude tomorrow. As with many movies and games, the third title usually marks an end to a chapter and Uncharted is no different. With that in mind, Naughty Dog is now thinking about what to do next with Nathan Drake – or if they’ll make another Uncharted at all.

Creative Director Amy Hennig shared her thoughts on what’s coming next for Nathan Drake and the Uncharted series in her latest interview, and after being asked about where the series is heading next, she replied:

I’m not sure if we are doing a 4th one; there are lots of decisions to be made there. You can start a new story with the same character. I think I would want to continue exploring facets of Drake that we haven’t seen; how you do that is putting people in his world that inspire or provoke different aspects of his character that we haven’t seen yet.

Nolan North and Emily Rose on Uncharted 3 acting.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception hits PS3 next week, but if you can't get enough of Nolan North, the voice - and the physical acting reference - for Nathan Drake, then check out this new video from Sony, detailing some of the mo-cap challenges that spring up during production.

North also plays loads of other characters, apparently, during which chatter isn't safe for public consumption, according to Cinematic Productino Head, Taylor Kurosaki. There's some pretty hilarious grunting at 3.45, too. [SOURCE]

Sony has announced a Feb. 2012 launch date for the PlayStation Vita, its next-generation portable console, SCEA's chief executive said at the Web 2.0 Summit on Tuesday. Sony previously said that the PlayStation Vita would launch Dec. 17 in Asia and Japan in time for the holidays. Hundreds of people lined up in Tokyo just to get in line for the presale.

"But today, we're announcing that it will be available in North America, Latin America and Europe on Feb. 22, just four months away," said Jack Tretton, chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment of America. Sony will price the Vita at $249 for the Wi-Fi version and $299 for the Wi-Fi/3G version, Tretton said. Sony executives said previously that the Vita would miss the winter holidays for the North American market. [SOURCE]

AusGamers: Ok guys, welcome back to AusGamers. You’re here with Stephen Farrelly and we’re out at Sony’s cool little hang-out room that they have every year. It’s probably the best place to go [at e3] because it’s not as bad as the show floor -- it’s lovely. We’re here with Richard, who’s the Co-Lead Game Designer on this one -- this fantastic number here [gestures at Uncharted 3 screen] -- probably one of the most talked about games at the show. Clearly one of the most talked about franchises in a long time. You guys are basically the flagship for the PS3 -- well, that’s what I think anyway. So let’s talk about... you don’t have any singleplayer here [at E3], was that...

Richard Lemarchand:
We don’t here on the show-floor, no. We made the deliberate decision to show off the multiplayer. For a number of reasons, but it’s just that the multiplayer shows so great in this kind of context. Everyone can pitch in and immediately get into it, as people are doing right here.

Don't worry, no spoilers here. Just a teaser... We were big fans of the Uncharted 2: Among Thieves ending. It just felt so satisfying and complete. But apparently, that's nothing compared to what Naughty Dog has planned for the Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception climax.

In speaking with TVology, Elena's voice actress talked about a number of subjects, and when asked about the ending of the third Uncharted, she gave quite the intriguing response:

So, recently we ran an article about id Software pontificating about the potential for RAGE and Doom 4 (which doesn’t exist yet, or so they want us to think..hmmm.) to take up one entire Blu-ray disk. (Roughly 50GB of data.) And we all stood there and said to ourselves, “Holy crap, that’s a lot of data..” Well, it is, let’s not miss the point here, however Naughty Dog then steps up to the plate at GamesCom this week and drops on the world that Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is currently OVER 50GB in production, but will in-fact be compressed down to fit on a single Blu-ray for release.

Arne Meyer, Naughty Dog community manager said this when discussing the details of the size of Uncharted 3, “I think it really helps. It’s not even about sales. It’s about what we can push on the platform and how far we can take it. I’m sure you’ll hear this from every other Sony developer but you know, I can’t tell you how much we’ve been able to optimize Cell and you know, the amount of content we can put on Blu-ray.” So, who knows, bigger may in fact be better, but only time will tell. Uncharted 2 was only roughly 25GB at launch, so Naughty Dog will be doubling the size for Uncharted 3, leaving Drake larger than life. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is still slated for a November release.

Among the different genres being offered this fall by DC Comics comes a new one in November: Pulp adventure. Uncharted, a new six-issue miniseries, follows the story of Nathan Drake, a modern-day adventurer with a wry sense of humor who claims to be a descendent of Sir Francis Drake. Part Indiana Jones, part Firefly, the Uncharted comic is based on the video game of the same name, which has a new release in November for PlayStation 3 titled, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. But the comic will tell an all-new, original story by up-and-coming writer.

Joshua Williamson, who got a lot of positive buzz from DC fans last year with his Superman/Batman issue that featured the odd team-up of Supergirl and Damian Wayne. Williamson will work with penciller Sergio Sandoval, and they'll get some help from a couple other superstar artists, with Tony Harris on covers and Adam Hughes providing a #1 variant.

The writer is hoping to attract readers to Uncharted who aren't necessarily game players by tapping into the fun of "pulp adventure" and the talent of his artist. But he's also including a lot of surprises for fans of the game. This isn't the first video game property to be picked up by DC, which used to print the properties under its former WildStorm imprint. It joins DC's other video game tie-in titles like Gears of War and World of Warcraft, but has a unique voice with its modern adventure theme. Newsarama talked with Williamson to find out more about the comic.

Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft has made an unusual comment regarding Sony and their upcoming PS3 exclusive game Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. In an interesting interiview to GameBig Magazine, Don said, "Sony doesn’t really pose a threat this holiday season. With only one exclusive, they don’t have the games to back up a 300 dollar price point. It’s the same story every year. They say it’s the year of the PS3, but sales show otherwise."

Don Mattrick comment doesn't make any sense at all as Microsoft has only one Xbox 360 exclusive this year, "Gears of War 3", whereas Sony has Resistance 3, Twisted Metal, Ratchet And Clank All 4 One, AND Uncharted 3. As far as i know Don Mattrick need to get his fact right before commenting on others. What you guys think on all this, let us know your views as a comment to this post. [SOURCE]

Who was there: From Naughty Dog there was creative director Amy Hennig, cinematic production lead Taylor Kurosaki, and lead cinematics animator Josh Scherr. These three were accompanied by members of the acting cast, including Nolan North, who plays Nathan Drake; Emily Rose, who does Elena Fisher; and Richard McGonagle, the actor behind Victor Sullivan.

What they talked about: While the panel was largely focused on the motion capture techniques behind the Uncharted series, one consistent theme was the importance of Naughty Dog’s collaborative spirit within everything the studio does. Hennig stressed early on that any member of the development team has to “check their ego at the door” when they come on board, which leads to an environment where staffers feel comfortable bouncing ideas off one another in a free-spirited work environment--an atmosphere that Naughty Dog has previously called “messy and chaotic in a good way.”
