Sony has been cooking up a film adaptation of the hugely popular Playstation 3 videogame Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for some time now. Following The Fighter, David O. Russell was briefly attached to direct, but departed the project due to creative differences. Less than two weeks ago, it was revealed that Sony, along with producers Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner, selected Neil Burger to write and direct the first big screen adventure of Nathan Drake. In an interview regarding the Blu-ray and DVD release of his latest film, this spring's hit Limitless (in stores Tuesday, July 19th), Burger talked exclusively with IAR about his take on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Burger made his feature debut as writer-director with 2002's Interview with the Assassin, and he followed that film with the much-loved The Illusionist, a period-era dramatic thriller starring Edward Norton. Prior to Limitless, he co-wrote and directed The Lucky Ones, an acclaimed dramedy starring Rachel McAdams, Tim Robbins, and Michael Pena as Iraq War veterans undertaking an odd road trip.

Insomniac President Ted Price in a recent interview to IGN spoke about importance of Uncharted: The Golden Abyss to PS VITA. Ted was asked whether traditional handheld still have a place in the market?, at present the mobile gaming market is at its peak, and so how does this affects the success of Sony's upcoming handheld PS VITA.

To this Ted replied, "I guess it depends on the application. If you have a killer app for a handheld, one that you must have, it really helps drive the sales for that particular device. Right now Uncharted on the Vita is looking pretty darn cool and is really fun to play. That might be the game that kicks it off with a bang."

Emily Rose, aka Elena Fisher from Uncharted, went live on stage with Jimmy Fallon last night to talk about her TV show Haven and, more importantly, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. She does get the release date wrong, but we can let that slide, it won't be the first or last time someone confuses those pesky 1s.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is out November 1 in North America and November 2 in Europe exclusively for the PS3. This time around Drake and gang are heading to the Rub'al Khali desert in search of the Atlantis of the Sands. If you missed the feature last night, you can check out the short clip here. [SOURCE]

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, arguably one of the most anticipated games of 2011, had a strong showing at E3 this year, showcasing single-player set-pieces, 3D support and expanded multiplayer options. We sat down with Robert Cogburn, game designer over at Naughty Dog, to discuss how the team thinks about following-up Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Enjoy!

GU: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was generally considered Game of the Year for 2009. How do you top that?
Robert:
It's challenging. I don't know if you saw the Sony press conference demo, but I really feel that we can do it by delivering on that level of scale. Having those epic set-pieces can push the franchise even further then it was with Uncharted 2 - at least that's what we're hoping.

Additionally, we've just expanded the hell out of our multiplayer. Last game there was depth, but not too much. This time we've added kickbacks, you can upgrade your boosters, greatly expanded coop, and we've tried to create these cinematic events in multiplayer. To do that we have things like a cargo plane going down a runway. It's also about working together, so that's why we have our buddy system, which let's you spawn on a friend. We've just expanded it to the best of our abilities, and I feel we are aiming to top Uncharted 2.

At this year’s Entertainment Expo, Naughty Dog showed off an impressive demonstration for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception featuring Nathan Drake fighting and traversing his way through a rocking cruise ship in the middle of a storm. A fan recently stated on the NeoGAF forum that, although the tech behind the water is impressive, it requires an inefficient use of resources because the impact to the player’s experience will be small. Arne Meyer, Senior Manager of Marketing Communications for Naughty Dog, responded to this statement with the following:

What do you mean inefficient use of resources? the point with the cruise ship, among other things we've done in the game, large and small, is that it's a fully realized physics object that serves to both ground you in the "world" of the game (so that everything reacts as you would expect if you were rolling around in an ocean) and provides challenges. And there's more to the water than just the simulated ocean -- for us it's the way we've got it sloshing around in the pool, the way it's used as an obstacle and challenge the various sequences you've seen in the E3 demo.

Evan Wells is boss of Uncharted developer Naughty Dog, but is also a former Crystal Dynamics man. His ex-studio impresses him with Tomb Raider. The origin reboot for the series has Wells excited, praising their CG trailer as they "executed it unbelievably well". He also doubts there'll ever be a cross-over.

Sorry but Uncharted's Nathan Drake and Tomb Raider's Lara Croft will only be 'meeting up' in fan art and fiction confirms Evan Wells: "We've seen some fan art online that shows how cool that could be, but I don't think that'll ever be on the cards."

The new Tomb Raider has Lara stranded on an island in the Pacific Ocean where she'll have to learn to adapt and survive the harsh environment. "It's exciting," said Wells. "I've not seen the demo but I saw that CG trailer that went out a couple of nights ago and that was fantastic. They executed it unbelievably well and I'm really excited about that game."

First stereoscopic 3D game from LA developer Naughty Dog drew on Hollywood 3D filmmaking techniques.

LOS ANGELES – Sony-owned game studio Naughty Dog is taking its bestselling video game franchise, Uncharted, to the third dimension. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception for PlayStation 3, the developer’s first stereoscopic 3D video game, makes its debut at Sony’s E3 booth this week. And the third-person action game is already drawing comparisons to James Cameron's Avatar.

“Uncharted 3 could do for 3D gaming what Avatar did for 3D movies,” said analyst Jesse Divnich, vice president of capital research for Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR). “I’ve personally never been fond of games in stereoscopic 3D, but now that I have had to chance to experience Uncharted 3 in 3D, that opinion has changed." The Santa Monica-based game developer studied hit 3D movies like Avatar and How to Train Your Dragon in the hopes of replicating that success in the interactive realm.
