Forty-eight games have been named as nominees for the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards as the full list of nominations was released early this morning. Batman: Arkham City and L.A. Noire have led the list, both nominated in eight categories, competing for Artistic Achievement, Best Game, Design, Original Music, Performer, and Story, with Arkham City also nominated for Action, and Audio Achievement, and L.A. There are few surprises further down the list, with the full list of Best Game nominations being Batman: Arkham City, FIFA 2012 (really?), L.A. Noire, Portal 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and LittleBigPlanet 2 have come away with six nominations each, while Portal 2 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim have come away with five, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution has followed with four.

Furthermore, two nominations went to Bastion, Battlefield 3, Dance Central 2, Dark Souls, FIFA 12, From Dust, Kinect Sports 2, Monstermind, The Nightjar, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Super Mario 3D Land, Total War: SHOGUN 2 each. The BAFTA Ones to Watch Award, given in association with the widely-respected Dare to be Digital, lists Dreamweaver from Evolved Ape, Joust! from Digital Knights, and Tick Tock Toys from Swallowtail as its three nominations.

This year’s Awards also include a publicly-voted category, the GAME Award of 2011. Gamers can now vote for the winner at the official BAFTA website from a shortlist consisting of Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, FIFA 2012, L.A. Noire, Minecraft, Portal 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
