Review aggregator Metacritic has announced its best games of 2009, based on average review scores.

Coming convincingly top of the list is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, with a metascore of 96%. Second and third place is pretty much tied between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Street Fighter IV, both receiving 94%, with Call of Duty slightly taking the lead on multiformat scores. A fairly deserving if slightly predictable list, with the disclaimer that you’d have to like shooting and punching things to truly agree.
Other noteworthy games making the top ten were GTA: Chinatown Wars, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Forza Motorsport 3. Out of the systems, the PlayStation 3 came top, with an average review score of 72% based on 228 titles, 10 of which received 90% of higher. Good news for Sony then.
